About Torrey Kaminski
Hello and welcome! I am a flutist, teacher, performer, pedagogue, clinician, lecturer, and adjudicator, and I love what I do! I especially enjoy teaching flute lessons and playing chamber music with my local ensembles. In addition to my career as a musician, I also love practicing and teaching yoga, hiking, traveling, gardening, reading, photography, and painting.
“Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the
imagination, and life to everything.” – Plato

She is known for her positive, enthusiastic teaching style, and for spreading her love of music to her students. Her students regularly succeed in school chair tests and receive high rankings in local music competitions and festivals, such as WMEA All-State Conference, WMEA Solo & Ensemble Contest, and the SFS Horsfall Competition.

In addition to the flute, Ms. Kaminski also enjoys playing world instruments. She has several Native American flutes, a crystal flute, and panpipes.
Ms. Kaminski is an avid yoga practitioner who enjoys exploring classes of all levels and styles. She is grateful for the endless benefits and life lessons she has learned from her yoga practice. Noticing how yoga enhanced her flute playing, Ms. Kaminski completed her 200-hour Yoga Alliance Certified Teacher Training to deepen her own practice and to share the benefits with others. Along with teaching regular yoga classes, Ms. Kaminski enjoys fusing yoga and music by incorporating poses, breathing techniques, and other yogic concepts into her flute teaching. She has led Yoga for Musicians workshops around the USA and Canada and has repeatedly been a yoga and wellness presenter at the annual National Flute Association Convention. Her teachings on exercises to release neck and shoulder tension for flutist will be included in Performance Day Insights, a book by Dr. Cathy Herrera, out in late 2019.
Ms. Kaminski has appeared as a soloist or finalist with the Rome Festival Orchestra, Bay View Music Festival Orchestra, Washington-Idaho Symphony, Seattle Philharmonic Orchestra, and the University of Washington Wind Ensemble, and was a guest artist at the Affetti Chamber Music Festival.
