About Torrey Kaminski

Hello and welcome! I am a flutist, teacher, performer, pedagogue, clinician, lecturer, and adjudicator, and I love what I do! I especially enjoy teaching flute lessons and playing chamber music with my local ensembles. In addition to my career as a musician, I also love practicing and teaching yoga, hiking, traveling, gardening, reading, photography, and painting.

“Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the
imagination, and life to everything.” – Plato

Torrey Kaminski is a sought-after flute teacher and performing artist around Western Washington. She serves on the faculty at Edmonds Community College, maintains a thriving private lesson studio, and is in-demand as a flute coach and clinician in local school districts. She is known for her positive, enthusiastic teaching style, and for spreading her love of music to her students. Her students regularly succeed in school chair tests and receive high rankings in local music competitions and festivals, such as WMEA All-State Conference, WMEA Solo & Ensemble Contest, and the SFS Horsfall Competition.

Ms. Kaminski often performs in solo recitals and is an active chamber musician, collaborating with many other local musicians and ensembles. She regularly performs with the Windsong Trio, Evergreen Duo, and is a frequent guest artist with the Seattle Marimba Quartet. She recently performed live on the radio for Northwest Focus on 98.1 KING FM. Ms. Kaminski is featured on multiple albums including A Thousand Pictures with the Seattle Marimba Quartet and Classical Guitar in America with compositions by Randy Hathaway. In addition to the flute, Ms. Kaminski also enjoys playing world instruments. She has several Native American flutes, a crystal flute, and panpipes.

Ms. Kaminski is an avid yoga practitioner who enjoys exploring classes of all levels and styles.  She is grateful for the endless benefits and life lessons she has learned from her yoga practice.  Noticing how yoga enhanced her flute playing, Ms. Kaminski completed her 200-hour Yoga Alliance Certified Teacher Training to deepen her own practice and to share the benefits with others. Along with teaching regular yoga classes, Ms. Kaminski enjoys fusing yoga and music by incorporating poses, breathing techniques, and other yogic concepts into her flute teaching. She has led Yoga for Musicians workshops around the USA and Canada and has repeatedly been a yoga and wellness presenter at the annual National Flute Association Convention. Her teachings on myofascial release exercises to relieve neck and shoulder tension for flutists are included in It's Performance Day! Success in the Spotlight, a book by Dr. Cathy Herrera, released in February 2021.

Ms. Kaminski has appeared as a soloist or finalist with the Rome Festival Orchestra, Bay View Music Festival Orchestra, Washington-Idaho Symphony, Seattle Philharmonic Orchestra, and the University of Washington Wind Ensemble, and was a guest artist at the Affetti Chamber Music Festival. Ms. Kaminski’s professional ensemble performances include appearances with the Tacoma Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Seattle, Puget Sound Symphony Orchestra, Northwest Symphony Orchestra, Sammamish Symphony Orchestra, Ballet Bellevue, Evergreen City Ballet, and Bellevue Opera. She has also played with Let Your Music Shine with Lisa and Linda, a concert series for young children. As an attendee to many summer music festivals, Ms. Kaminski has been able to study with artists such as Bonita Boyd, Amy Porter, Greg Patillo, Linda Toote, the Corigliano Quartet, and the Boston Brass.

Ms. Kaminski served four years as the President of the Seattle Flute Society and an additional three years on the SFS Board of Directors. She holds both a Master of Music degree and Bachelor of Music degree.
